China's booming Lunar New Year box office is undergoing a surprise shakeup, the Beijing Culture-backed tear-jerking comedy “Hi, Mom” grossed $134 million this weekend to finally surpass Wanda Film’s record-breaking Chinese New Year holiday frontrunner “Detective Chinatown 3” in overall box office, having led the latter in single-day returns since Monday.

Logline:

A woman travels back in time to befriend her own mother in an attempt to make her life better.

From my perspective, the film is based on the true story between director of the film and her mom, so it's a movie full of most real feelings. The plot is very humorous, the love between mother and daughter is also reflected incisively and vividly.

Although might be because the director is new to movie, some parts of the plot feels little bit incomplete, overall it hit me in my softest spot. It's hard for those who have been in Chinese family culture to not have high emotional empathy with the characters.

Really worth watching!!!
